And in this course we will delve deep into the details of gene editing and why it is being seen as a promising strategy for the treatment of numerous genetic diseases like sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, etc to the generation of engineered crops, wiping out of malaria causing mosquitoes and others. You will get advanced learning of how CRISPR functions as a gene-editing tool, its comparison to other gene editing tools like Zinc Finger Nucleases, TALENs, etc, components of the CRISPR-Cas system, and the different ways in which CRISPR can be applied to healthcare, agriculture, and many other industries.The beauty of the CRISPR system is that its applications extend much further beyond just gene editing.For instance, the CRISPR-Cas system can be used as a powerful tool to regulate gene expression. In this course, we will learn how scientists have been modifying the CRISPR system to reversibly activate or silence genes and edit the epigenome in previously unimaginable ways. This can open the doors to new treatment options and a better understanding of human pathogenesis.This course will cover how fluorescent proteins can be attached to the components of CRISPR-Cas to detect and locate the positions of specific DNA sequences on the chromosomes. Statistics is a subject like salt, needed in every food. The process of gathering, analysing, and interpreting data is all covered by statistics, which also offers a conceptual framework. The mathematical underpinnings for machine learning and data mining are provided by statistics, which is employed in many fields of scientific and social study as well as in business and industry. The principles and methods of statistics as they are used in a wide range of fields will be thoroughly introduced to students in this course, especially data shaping, central tendency, data viability, z-scores and most importantly the probability! for the central centendency mean, median, and mode are illustrated along with practice problems; and skewed distributions are explained, as well as how to calculate the weighted mean. For the data viability, this course will help you to understand and explain variability (spread) in a set of numbers, including how to rank data and interpret data such as standardized test scoresThe information and abilities you need to begin data analysis are given to you in this course. Meta-analysis is an important statistical approach to validly combine the results of studies following a systematic review. This course takes you through the concepts of meta-analysis and the various graphical representation required to display the results. The two important types of data, binary and continuous, and their pooled estimates are discussed in simple language with relevant examples for you to understand better. The RevMan software offered free by the Cochrane Collaboration is a sturdy application to do meta-analysis, with the image quality good for journal publication. The figures generated are standard and comparable to other images from other applications. I personally will recommend this application for beginners in meta-analysis.Heterogeneity is variations among the studies which are included in the meta-analysis. Understanding the various types of heterogeneity and how it impacts the interpretation of the results from meta-analysis is important. The course also deals with the learning and generation of forest and funnel plots. They are the graphical presentation of data and results displayed in the form of a scatter plot.
